Oggetto: Motorcycle touring in Italy [itinerari costa adriatica?]

Hi mates,

I'm planning a motorcycle trip across south-eastern Europe and Italy is on my way. I plan to be in Italy in August from 5th to 7th. I plan to come with a ferry from Igoumenitsa, Greece and will be heading north to Austria along the Adriatic cost. Here is a preliminary sketch of my route:

Link a pagina di Prelastitelia.com
It passes through Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, Austria, Hungary and Romania.

I'll be really grateful if you share some tips to make my stay in Italy nicer. I have some specific questions:

1. Can you make some suggestions about the roads? I prefer to go on roads with nice views, turns, etc. rather than boring highways. We will not be in a rush. I'd also prefer toll-free roads. Are there paid highways on my path and are there alternative roads to avoid them?
I'll be also happy to get info about interesting sights around my route. I plan to spend some the hottest hours on the beach so I'll be gratefull if you recommend some spots. I'd also like to visit interesting towns and cities along my route and even have a beer with some of you if you have the time icon_smile.gif I was thinking about visiting San Marino, Venice and Rimini but other ideas are welcome.

2. How is the traffic police? Are there lots of speeding cameras or they rely more on under-cover police cars with radars? Are there any specific requirements like to have spare light bulbs or sth like that?

3. I'm looking to book a ferry from Igoumenitsa to Bari or Brindisi but still can't find one for less than 170 euros for two passengers with accomodation and the bike. Do you think I can find anything cheeper? I have checked only Greek sites, can you recommend some Italian?

4. I will spend to nights in Italy - the first somewhere between Pescara and Ancona and the next one somewhere around Venice. I plan to spend one night in a tent and the other on a Hotel/Hostel. Can you recommend cheap places to stay in these areas? And will somebody mind if I set my tent up outside urban areas, especially the police. If so, are there camping sites along the way. Can anyone share a list of camping sites along the adriatic coast.

5. It will be great if you can share info about motorcycle service and tyre repair centres along the way in case of emergency.

6. And of course everyone willing to join the trip in some part is welcome!

Thanks everyone! Your advices are greatly appreciated.

Hi, the day you'll stay in Italy and the pplace you chose to see it's the worst for your money icon_rolleyes.gif

Till Pescara campings are quite cheap, but when you reach Rimini and Venice you'll probably find more expensive price.

Try to leave at your back the sea-place for the nights.

About the highways there are no problems to avoid them, I only hope you have a good roadmap.

After Pescara if you stay near the sea-side you'll find quite boring streets. For me there ara much better ones if you consider to pass from Perugia, Assisi and the others medieval town along the "Appenini" mountains: much more turns icon_cool.gif

There is not many Police on our route, expecially if you stay on "Provinciali": they are indicated as "SP xxx" and some numbers after.
You'll not have probably many problems expecially if you don't travel at 120 Km/h in center of towns icon_twisted.gif

About ferry I can't help you, sorry icon_mad.gif

If you need some help, call me also with "MP" botton

Lampsss

Thanks for the assistance, mate!

What do you think of the option to just setup my tent somewhere around the road well outside urban areas? Would it be a problem?

I'll have in mind the advise about the road past Perugia and Assise, this is making the trip longer but if we are doing well with the plan we can try it.

Outside urban areas you can have some problem whit our "Polizia Municipale" (urban police), but you can try or better ask to some farmer to put tend near farm.

You'll be safer and probably taste same tipically products like cheese or ham icon_wink.gif

I'd like to know your opinions about this italian trip

see you soon 0510_saluto.gif
